6. Project excavations shall be monitored by a professional archaeologist under the guidance of the monitoring and inadvertent discovery plan (MIDP). The MIDP specifies in further detail the areas and depths that should be monitored. Ground-disturbing activities include removing any existing asphalt that extends into native fill and alluvial sediments, site grading, developing staging areas, and installing utilities and structural foundation pilings. Monitoring should be undertaken for all ground disturbance that extends from the ground surface to the base of the Holocene sediments, which vary in elevation across the project area.
